The EDS-1275 (also known as the Double-12) was originally introduced in 1958 with a unique double Florentine cutaway design and semi-hollow body construction (without any f-holes) in addition to its two necks, one being a regular six-string and the other being a 12-string. It is possible that this inspired the SG's double Florentine cutaway design. They were only made to order, and very few were produced. In 1963, it was redesigned with the SG body shape, now becoming a solid body guitar.

1986-2003[]

1988
Around mid-1986, the EDS saw changes in keeping with the new SG-62 model; new headstocks, tuning machines designed by Schaller to mimic the look of Klusons and an inlaid mother of pearl Gibson logo. It also gained real Mother of Pearl fretboard inlays and the 12-string headstock was elongated in order to fit individual tuners. Cutaway beveling returned in 1988.
Gruhn's Guide To Vintage Guitars claims this was a Custom Shop model from 1991-1994, but Gibson catalogs from that era place it as part of the Gibson USA lineup. In any case, the "Custom Shop" moniker didn't mean much until 1994 anyway, as they were not a separate production line until then.
Note: 1994 models used a different serial number format of "YY######" to celebrate Gibson's Centennial Anniversary. It reverted back in 1995 to the standard Gibson USA format.

2004-2013 (Custom Collection)[]

In 2004, the EDS became a "Custom Collection" model. This means that it was not redesigned to improve historical accuracy in the ways that the "Historic Collection" models were, and simply moved production to the Nashville Custom Shop. The only feature changes were moving to 3-piece laminated necks and Nickel plated hardware instead of Chrome. The serial numbers began using the standard Custom Shop format (with a CS prefix) and a Certificate of Authenticity was now included. In 2006, production moved from the Nashville Custom Shop to the Memphis factory. Despite that, it was still considered part of the Custom Shop lineup, and retained the Custom Shop decal and serial number, although Memphis continued using the old style Custom Shop decal that Nashville stopped using in 2006.

This model can now also be custom ordered with any features through the Made 2 Measure program.

Jimmy Page Signature (2007, Custom Shop)[]
Production Limited to 250 VOS units and 25 Aged, Signed & Played by Page units. Both come with a Custom Shop case, certificate of authenticity, custom care kit, two-DVD box set Led Zeppelin, and a copy of a private interview with Jimmy regarding the Double Neck. Unlike the standard EDS-1275 of the era, these were made in the Nashville Custom Shop.
Contrary to popular belief, Page's EDS-1275 is not a 1971, but more likely a 1969 because it lacks a volute, which is reflected in this signature model.
Serial numbers consist of ink stamped sequential number under "Jimmy Page" ink stamp.

Slash 1966 Signature (2019)[]

Production limited to 125 hand signed & numbered units. This is based on Slash's 1966 EDS-1275 seen in the Tokyo 1992 performance, not to be confused with the circa-1989 model he had refinished in Ebony, which he used for most other shows on that tour, and still uses to this day. The ~1989 model was most visibly used at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert.
