The Epiphone 1961 Les Paul SG Standard was introduced in late 2021 as a 2022 model. It followed shortly behind the Gibson Custom Shop 60th Anniversary 1961 SG Standard, which was the first ever SG reissue to feature the short-lived pointier and longer Angel Wing pickguard found on late-1960 and early-1961 SG/Les Paul builds. It also has a more rounded bass side horn, as '60s SGs did. Being advertised as "made in partnership with the Gibson Custom Shop" led to some confusion as to the extent of their involvement. To be clear, these guitars are made in Epiphone's Qingdao, China factory and Gibson Custom simply lended the information and templates needed.
An easter egg on the underside of the control cavity cover says "Nice work, Larry!", a reference to Larry Allers, who is credited with having the biggest hand in the SG's design. Includes brown Lifton-style case with pink lining.
