This model was a limited run ordered by Five Star Guitars of Beaverton, Oregon. They started by using the Historic 1964 Standard Reissue as the basis, and then specified features that would be found on a circa 1970 model, inspired by Angus Young's first SG (in its original, unmodified state). This follows in the footsteps of previous limited runs approximating a late '60s Reissue, such as the 2020 Historic Standard Bolivian Rosewood. However, this does not intend to be a direct copy or reissue, but is rather inspired by a 1970 Standard, deliberately eschewing the narrow 1 9/16" nut for a standard 1 11/16" width and retaining the 1964 heel design. The Grovers were inspired by the Schaller tuners installed on Angus Young's SG.
The most significant differences from a 1970 Standard include the lack of volute, one-piece neck, nut width, heel design and Alnico III pickups. Smaller details include the crown inlay location, Gibson logo font, bevelling depth and headstock width.
